No. I just ask that you be open to the idea of God. 

Very little is known about the life of Mary. Only a few hundred words in the canonical Gospels. This is a curated experience that draws upon scripture, ancient texts, the visions of Christian mystics, and the essays of theologians and philosophers— as well as art, legend, music and literature. 

I’m asking you to imagine Mary’s story and to explore it in whatever way resonates with you. 

No, and yes. This course is not a study of the Bible in the traditional sense. It uses scripture, ancient texts like The Ancient Infancy Gospel of James, and theological studies like St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body (written when he was Pope). The idea is to help you to explore what Mary’s life was like, physically, emotionally and spiritually. 

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a debate on whether Mary is the mother of God. I’m asking you to suspend your disbelief and imagine yourself at that well drawing water and having a mystical experience. This is also not a debate on whether Mary should be venerated or worshiped. In my belief, all women should. And so as we approach text and hymns that may have language that goes against what you were brought up to believe, I’m asking you to put that aside and open yourself up to the idea of the Divine Feminine.

No! We are born of both male and female. I invite and welcome any gender to my classes. There is so much we can learn from each other.

Yes! Please share! Sharing your story is an important way to keep yourself motivated and build community. It’s not a requirement. You can either read what you wrote or just tell it. Or even just be present for the group.Some people like to use this opportunity to create fiction, memoir, poetry, art, even a garden. How you create is totally up to you, but I guarantee you sharing yourself is part of the journey. You can also work with me directly if you prefer a one-on-one experience.

The writing process is an expressive tool to help you unlock what is deeply held in the body. We focus on the process, not the result—although the results are very beautiful. I guide you through the journey with somatic writing exercises to stimulate that connection. These are guided meditative experiences followed by quick bursts of automatic writing. There are also many writing prompts and reflection questions after each lesson. 

The writer Flannery O’Connor said, “I write because I don’t know what I think until I read what I say.” You need to know what you think. You need to know how you think. Because this is your life, your movie, and you are the writer, director and actor in it. So create!

Sanskrit is a language like any other and has ancient roots. In fact, thousands of English words have Sanskrit origins. 

Again, I ask that you be open. This course is given in English, which wasn’t around in ancient times. Most of us don’t know Aramaic, the language of Jesus and Mary, nor Hebrew, which incidentally, is not the same language as it was. 

Words are very important in our studies, and whenever we can clarify meaning we go to the etymology and root of a word. You’ll find your relationship to language will change, opening up layers of thought and allowing you to make connections and realizations you weren’t able to make before.

No. It is a technology. It works the subtle energy systems in the body on a quantum level. We do not reference any deity. In fact, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, which is a major source for the Christ in Kundalini series, references one supreme being: God. God in Sanskrit is called Ishwara.

My classes are for all levels. Kundalini is known as the “yoga of householders.” It works the energetics of the body in simple but amazing ways. Many of the postures are done seated on the floor or can be done in a chair. Difficulty comes in how long the postures are held, and so any posture can be modified and even visualized with the same results.

Yes! It’s part of the experience. My ethos is that we need to engage every bit of ourselves, including our bodies. I firmly believe in the felt sense of Faith. Language has its limits, as does thought. The body holds an inner knowing, a connection to the Divine that can only be felt. Do the classes guarantee this? No. Only a regular devotional practice can. I give you examples of how to bring yoga and meditation into your daily life for the express intention of connecting with God. Consider this as part of the commitment to the course, and to your Self (both the small self and the “capital S”!)
